Erewash Valley Trail
Erewash Canal
“ a smile with every mile” The Trail rich in waterway and railway heritage
The Erewash Valley Trail is based on a 30 mile circular walking and cycling route which takes in waterways on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border within 5 miles of Nottingham and 12 miles of Derby. The trail has links across the valley which mean it can be explored in sections. However the trail is not just about this large access route it also about the wildlife and heritage of the area. Attenborough Nature Reserve lies at its southern tip which is where the river Erewash meets the river Trent. The site regularly has Bitterns and other rare birds and Otters are making a comeback along the valley. The Trail is rich in waterway and railway heritage with The Great Northern Basin at the northern tip once the junction of the Erewash, Cromford and Nottingham Canals.
