Trent & Mersey Canal and River Trent

18th century transhipment port

There has been a settlement on the site since before the doomsday book was written. Shardlow is a village oozing in history. Once a river port, it developed further once the canal was built. There are over 50 protected buildings still standing in Shardlow today.

Opening hours for the heritage centre are: Easter - End of October Saturdays, Sundays & Bank Holidays 12noon - 5.00pm Free Parking, Admission 75 pence Accompanied children free Evening and/or group visits by arrangement
