Stourport on Severn is an inland port, where exotic goods from the great seaports of Bristol and Gloucester were transferred and exchanged with manufactured goods and materials from Birmingham and the Black Country. Stourport on Severn developed where the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal joined the River Severn.

Stourport is one of the finest examples of the development of a town, built as a consequence of the canals. Historic Georgian buildings and numerous bridges, locks and canal basins give a fascinating insight into the life of an 18th Century inland port on the river Severn. Along the river there are river meadows, with green space for all ages to enjoy and not forgetting the fun fair! Why not book a boat trip too and relax whilst cruising along the river?

What about schools and groups?

Stourport’s Canal Basins make a great educational day out. Self-guided trails, one of which explaining the contemporary art features can help to guide your group around these fascinating features.

School weeks are organised each year, where local volunteers run guided tours and loan box activities. A new initiative between Stourport Forward and Bewdley Museum is now offering schools the chance to discover more about Stourport the Canal Town through discovery boxes.
