Children visit Saturn
10 schools abandoned their schools for a trip to Saturn
An exciting week was had by ten schools last week on the Llangollen Canal when they abandoned their schools in preference for an outdoor classroom. They worked with working boat Saturn and the Saturn Project team on lots of activities to learn more about the waterways. The tour around the cabin was fascinating and held a few surprises when the children realised there was no toilet on board! Back on dry land the children made lace plates, a traditional ornament often seen displayed in boat cabins, as well as watching a roses and castles artist, exploring archive images and learning how boats were powered. An inspiring time was had by all and even the teachers learnt a thing or two. Why not visit the http://www.saturnflyboat.org.uk/ to learn more about the fly boat Saturn or to organise your own school visit. In addition to welcoming schools aboard there was plenty of interest from passers by who greeted by the volunteers who manage the project. Lots of questions later many people had had an unexpected lesson in historic boating!
