Step aboard the Working Boats in 2010
A family day out with added experience of building a canal and boarding a historic working boat
Families are given a unique opportunity to step aboard a working boat, run by British Waterways volunteers. WOW has set up a number of family days in Birmingham, Hatton in Warwick, Fradley Junction near Burton upon Trent and Foxton Locks in Leicestershire where you can take part in hands on boating activities. • Step aboard the historic working boat - see inside the tiny cabin where boat families lived. • Step down into the ‘hold’ – where the cargoes were carried and learn what goods were transported around the Midlands. • Take the activity challenge – ‘Build a canal’ or ‘Load the boat'. • Roses & Castle painting demonstrations take place at some of these events. The first two events took place in June this year at Fradley Junction and in Birmingham. Forthcoming event dates are: 17th & 18th July – Birmingham, outside the Seal Life Centre. 14th & 15th August – Foxton Locks, near Market Harborough in Leicestershire. 25th – 29th October (half term) – Hatton Locks, near Warwick. Come along and join us and have fun with boats!
